Traditional Chinese Medicine

Traditional Chinese medicine is one of the oldest continuous systems of medicine in history, with recorded instances dating as far back as two thousand years. Chinese Medicine has a long history of addressing muscular skeletal conditions through thousands of years of helping martial artists to improve their performance and better heal their injuries. Most of the time pain or injuries are treated with a combination of acupuncture, cupping, and therapeutic massages. Chinese medicine is quite complex and can be difficult for some people to comprehend. This is because Traditional Chinese medicine is based, at least in part, on the Daoist belief that we live in a universe in which everything is interconnected. What happens to one part of the body affects every other part of the body. The mind and body are not viewed separately, but as part of an energetic system. Similarly, organs and organ systems are viewed as interconnected structures that work together to keep the body functioning.

More Americans are also using acupuncture, herbal remedies and other components of traditional Chinese medicine than ever before. The reasons for this vary, but the increasing interest in, and use of, Traditional Chinese medicine is due in large part to its effectiveness, affordability and lack of adverse side-effects compared to Western medicine.

Cupping Therapy

Cupping therapy is a form of alternative medicine in which cups are placed on the skin to create suction. Although most clinics practice stationary cupping since it is unattended and the doctor can place cups and leave the room to work on other patients, I use moving cupping where I am in the room the entire time moving the cups along the area to be treated, even though this is more time and energy consuming for the doctor, I like that it does not leave as much marks on the skin plus I believe it creates a flow that is better when it comes to moving the Qi and blood over the area being treated.

Short video of Dr. Mercola talking about probiotics.

I like and endorse Dr. Mercola’s information. This is a simple graph to explain what he calls Peak Fitness which for me is the same as HIIT ( High Intensity Interval Training) which according to many recent studies, is the most effective ways of exercising.

What supplements should I take?

Many patients ask me what supplements should they take. This is going to vary depending on the individual needs of each patient but I will give some general recommendations. First of all everybody should be taking a multi vit/min, make sure this is of good quality, preferably organic, not what you can buy at Walgreens or Costco. After that then some Omega 3, which in my case I take some fish oil and some krill, since fish oil benefits more the cardiovascular system and the krill the joints, next I would recommend some antioxidant (astaxanthin, resveratrol, etc), then some vit D3 and B12, and if older than 40 yrs old, some CoQ10. This is just basic supplementation, personally I take a little bit more than that based on my conditions and family medical history/genetics.
